The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, have announced the safe release of two of their members, Sr. Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Sr. Grace Mariette Okoli, who were abducted on the evening of Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The joyful news was shared in a statement signed by Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, Secretary General of the congregation, from their Generalate in Onitsha, Anambra State. The statement revealed that the sisters were released unconditionally and are in good health.
Expressing gratitude, the congregation thanked God for the safe return of the sisters and acknowledged the prayers and support from the clergy, religious communities, and lay faithful during the challenging period.
“May God forever be blessed through Mary our Mother,” Sr. Ikeotuonye wrote, emphasizing the deep faith and reliance on divine intervention throughout the ordeal.
This release has brought immense relief and joy to the Catholic community, which had fervently prayed for the sisters’ safe return.
