The Vatican has announced the appointment of Bishop Waldemar Passini Dalbello as Coadjutor Bishop of Anápolis, Brazil, and the appointment of Reverend Peter Chao Yung-Chi as Auxiliary Bishop of Taipei, Taiwan. Both appointments underscore the Holy Father’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership within key dioceses across the globe.
Bishop Waldemar Passini Dalbello, currently the Bishop of Luziânia, Brazil, will now serve as Coadjutor Bishop of Anápolis. Born in Anápolis on 6 June 1966, Dalbello has an extensive background in both theology and engineering. He was ordained as a priest in 1994 for the Archdiocese of Brasília and has held various key roles in the Brazilian Church.
Bishop Dalbello’s distinguished service includes roles as spiritual director, professor of sacred scripture, and rector of the São João Maria Vianney interdiocesan seminary. He has also served as bishop of Luziânia since 2017. Throughout his career, Dalbello has been actively involved in several Episcopal Commissions and has represented the Latin American Episcopal Council (C.E.L.A.M.) in the Southern Cone.
His new appointment as Coadjutor Bishop of Anápolis positions him to assist the current bishop in leadership responsibilities, with the possibility of succeeding him in the future.
The Vatican also confirmed the appointment of Reverend Peter Chao Yung-Chi as Auxiliary Bishop of Taipei, Taiwan, assigning him the titular see of Rusgunie. Born on 28 March 1973 in Taichung City, Taiwan, Chao was ordained a priest in 2001 for the Diocese of Chiayi.
Throughout his pastoral career, Chao has held a variety of positions, including parish priest, vice rector of the regional seminary, and chaplain of several nursing homes and educational institutions. He currently serves as the parish priest of the Cathedral of Saint John in Chiayi, a role he will maintain while taking on additional responsibilities in Taipei.
With his rich pastoral experience and leadership within the diocese, Chao’s appointment as auxiliary bishop is seen as an important step for the Church in Taiwan, especially as it continues to navigate the challenges of evangelisation in Asia.
