A group of about forty individuals from across the Ghana-Liberia Province of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) have converged at the Divine Word Catholic Conference Centre in Nsawam-Adoagyire, Koforidua Diocese, for their national congress aimed at strengthening their mission in the Church.
The Congress, which commenced on March 21, 2025, will run through March 24, 2025, under the theme, “The Role of SVD Lay Partners in the Mission of the Church.”
Participants are engaging in a range of formation exercises and spiritual activities designed to deepen their understanding of their role within the Church’s mission.
They are being led through a series of insightful presentations. Fr. Emmanuel Danso Abeam is discussing the history of the SVD Lay Partners, shedding light on their journey and contributions over the years. Rev. Fr. Samuel Yaw Adu, SVD, is exploring the crucial role that lay partners play in the Church’s mission, emphasizing their significance in supporting and advancing the work of the Society.
Additionally, Fr. Titus Tuoyintir, SVD, is guiding participants through the spirituality of the Society of the Divine Word, deepening their understanding of the spiritual foundation that underpins their partnership in the mission.
Alongside these enlightening sessions, several key activities are scheduled, including the National Election for Lay Partners and the adoption of guidelines and an action plan for the SVD Lay Partners. These efforts are aimed at strengthening the unity and commitment of the lay partners in the mission of the Society.
During one of the sessions, the Provincial Superior of the Ghana-Liberia Province of the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries, Very Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kuupol, SVD, emphasized the importance of active participation from the lay partners. He encouraged them to see themselves as integral members of the larger Arnoldus family and to embrace their role in advancing the mission of the Church.
The goal of the group is to inspire lay Catholics to learn more about the spirituality of the Society of the Divine Word, stay connected with the SVDs serving around the world and pray for the success of their missions.
The SVD partners holds prayer services, reflections and meditations to pray for Divine Word Missionary Priests and Brothers, as well as their missionary endeavors. They also roll up their sleeves and join the mission.
