The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie C.S.Sp, has approved a revision of stole fees and annual church dues across the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, with effect from January 2026.

In a statement dated January 2, 2026 and addressed to priests, religious and lay faithful, the Archbishop said the decision followed deliberations by the Priests Council at a meeting held on November 25 2025. He noted that the revised amounts had received his approval and would now be implemented throughout the Archdiocese.

The Archbishop explained that the changes were long overdue, pointing out that “the stole fees were last reviewed in 2014, while the church dues have remained unchanged for several years.”

He added that the review was necessary to respond to current conditions, stating that “the current revision therefore seeks to respond to present economic realities and to support the pastoral and administrative needs of the Church.”

Under the new structure, stole fees for the celebration of the sacraments have been adjusted. Baptism and Confirmation have both been revised from GHS 10 to GHS 20, while the fee for Holy Matrimony has increased from GHS 10 to GHS 50. Burial stole fees have also been revised from GHS 5 to GHS 50, and the dispensation for Holy Matrimony from GHS 5 to GHS 10.

Annual church dues have similarly been reviewed. Adult dues now stand at GHS 50, up from GHS 24. Youth dues have been increased from GHS 12 to GHS 25, while children will now pay GHS 12 instead of GHS 6.

Appealing for cooperation from the faithful, Archbishop Kwofie said, “I kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation as these revised amounts are implemented across the Archdiocese.”

He emphasised the importance of the contributions, noting that “your continued support contributes significantly to the sustenance of parish life, pastoral ministry, and the mission of the Church.”

Book of Isaiah 55,10-11.

Thus says the LORD: Just as from the heavens... the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats,
So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.

Psalms 34(33),4-5.6-7.16-17.18-19.

Glorify the LORD with me,
let us together... extol his name.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.

Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,
and your faces may not blush with shame.
When the poor one called out, the LORD heard,
and from all his distress he saved him.

The LORD has eyes for the just,
And ears for their cry.
The LORD confronts the evildoers,
to destroy remembrance of them from the earth.

When the just cry out, the LORD hears them,
and from all their distress he rescues them.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6,7-15.

Jesus said to his disciples:
"In... praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one.
If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."
