The Catholic Organisation for Social and Religious Advancement has expanded its mission of evangelisation and youth development with the inauguration of a new branch at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Vume.

The ceremony, held during Sunday Mass on March 22, 2026, marked the first officially inaugurated COSRA branch in the Battor-Ada Deanery, signaling a new chapter of growth for the organisation within the Catholic Organisation for Social and Religious Advancement and the Archdiocese of Accra.

The Vume branch now stands as the 60th in the Archdiocese and the 246th globally across Ghana and Germany. A total of 23 new members were formally initiated into the COSRA family during the ceremony.

The inauguration followed a preparatory retreat and orientation held the previous day, in line with COSRA’s formation procedures. The Eucharistic celebration was led by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Agyapong, Parish Priest of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, and drew a large gathering of COSRA members and leaders from across deanery, archdiocesan, and national levels.

Among the dignitaries present were Bro. Vincent Musah, National Vice President of COSRA; Sis. Helena Azambio, a member of the National Expansion Committee; Bro. Mathias Laryeh, Provincial Coordinator for Accra Province; and Bro. Prosper Narteh-Agbeyome, Archdiocesan President.

The establishment of the Vume branch is the culmination of a four-year effort rooted in collaboration and perseverance. The initiative began in July 2022 when the then Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Egblewogbe, invited the COSRA branch of Corpus Christi Catholic Church to help establish the organisation in his parish.

With support from the then Tema-Battor Deanery leadership, including President Bro. John Jaisey and the Deanery Education and Expansion Committee, groundwork was laid through mentorship, training, and sustained engagement.

As part of the early interventions, COSRA members mobilised funds to provide a Public Address system to the parish, an essential tool that enhanced communication during liturgical activities and gatherings.

Following its official launch in October 2022, the branch underwent structured formation, including teachings on COSRA’s initiation modules, constitution, and administrative framework, while actively participating in church life.

Despite challenges such as financial limitations and the logistics of regular visitations, the group demonstrated resilience and commitment. The process was successfully completed under the newly constituted Tema Deanery, led by President Sis. Justine Ahiable and her executive team.

The newly inaugurated branch will be led by Bro. Tsatsu Patrick as President, supported by Sis. Torpey Bridget Delali as Vice President. Other executives include Sis. Duvor Sophia (Secretary), Sis. Ahelege Gifty (Financial Secretary), and Bro. Adeti James Kwadzo (Organizer), along with co-opted members Bro. Heafide John and Sis. Gladys Aklatey.
