The National Peace Council (NPC) of Ghana has officially announced the election of Most Rev. Emmanuel Fianu, SVD, Catholic Bishop of Ho and Vice President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference as the new Chairman of the Council, following a unanimous decision by the Board Members.
In a congratulatory statement issued by the Council, the NPC extended its heartfelt congratulations to Most Rev. Fianu, emphasizing that his election is a clear demonstration of the deep trust and confidence reposed in his leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to peace.
“Your election is a testament to the confidence reposed in your leadership, wisdom, and commitment to peace. We look forward to a tenure marked by unity, dialogue, and national cohesion,”
The National Peace Council is an independent Statutory National Peace Institution established by an Act of Parliament (Act 818 of 2011) to facilitate the development of mechanisms for cooperation among all relevant stakeholders in peace building by promoting cooperative problem solving to conflict and by institutionalising the process of response to conflicts and to produce outcomes that leads to conflict transformation, social, Political and religious reconciliation and transformative dialogues.
Its core function is to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace. The council is decentralized at the regional and districts levels.
