The Bishop of Wa, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan (M.Afr), has said that the true meaning of Christmas lies in peace and joy rooted in the presence of God. He made the remarks while addressing thousands of Catholics gathered at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Mangu, to celebrate the festive season.
Reflecting on the readings of the day, Bishop Bomansaan emphasized that Christmas is not merely a festive season but a celebration of the peace of Christ and the joy that comes from knowing God is with us.
“When we wish each other Merry Christmas, we are wishing one another peace and joy because God is with us,” the Bishop said.
He urged congregants to take time to reflect on what God is asking of them during this season, stressing that Christmas cannot be measured by gifts, cards, or outward celebrations alone.
Bishop Bomansaan acknowledged that many people continue to face anxiety and hardship, but these conditions do not define who they are. He emphasized that God’s unconditional love brings lasting peace and joy, even in the midst of difficulties.
The Bishop also encouraged Christians to become bearers of hope, inspiration, and encouragement to those they meet during the season.
“Bring hope and encouragement to the lives of the people you meet,” he stressed.
The Catholic Diocese of Wa, which covers the Upper West Region, is home to a large Catholic population and has played a significant role in Ghana’s Catholic history. The Diocese has notably produced two of Ghana’s three Cardinals, Peter Cardinal Porekuu Dery, now Servant of God, and the late Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr (M.Afr).
