St. Dominic Parish marks 40th anniversary with cleanup, donation to Taifa Polyclinic

The St Dominic Catholic Church at Taifa has reached out to the Taifa Polyclinic with a cleanup exercise and donation of cleaning materials and toiletries as part of activities leading up to the parish’s 40th anniversary climax in November.

The exercise, held on 8 August, is part of the parish’s year long anniversary celebrations being held under the theme, “Walking with Faith, Growing in Hope” (2 Cor 5:7).

Speaking at the exercise on Saturday, Chairperson of the 40th Anniversary Committee, Mr Henry Victor Yevugah, said the outreach was part of the parish’s efforts to serve the wider community.

“What we can do as a church to help, one way or the other, as charity work. For St. Dominic Catholic Church we are celebrating 40 years. We have a whole lot of programmes covering the year up to November when we climax,” he said.

He said the anniversary programme had brought together activities in health, social engagement and other areas.

“So, on behalf of the parish council, parish youth council, the priest, we put all programmes together, health-wise, social-wise and other programmes to showcase the church. The church has been in existence for 40 years. November will be 40 years when St. Dominic Catholic Church was founded,” Mr Yevugah said.

“So this is one of our programmes, to reach out to this polyclinic and do this presentation, take part in a clean-up exercise for the polyclinic. That is why we have come this morning. And like I have said, we have been engaging the polyclinic for some few weeks now,” he said.

The parish presented cleaning materials including brushes, mops, soap and toiletries to the polyclinic and joined staff in cleaning parts of the facility.

The Administrator of the Taifa Polyclinic, Mrs Margaret Akuamoah, expressed appreciation to the parish for the outreach and cleanup exercise.

“This exercise was not that planned. But because of you coming here to help us, we also said we cannot sit down for you to come and help us,” she said.

She said the parish’s decision to support the facility was particularly significant.

“But for you to think of Taifa Polyclinic, it’s a plus. So we appreciate. On behalf of management once again and our staff, as you also celebrated your 40 years, we are saying that may God continue to help you as a church,” Mrs Akuamoah said.

She also appealed for support towards the establishment of a blood bank at the polyclinic.

“So the very basic, the one thing, one commodity, one item, one equipment that we want to help us qualify as a hospital is to have a blood bank. Currently there is a room available. The room has been cleaned and cleared today,” she said.

Mrs Akuamoah said the facility needed a blood bank refrigerator to proceed with the certification process.

“But we don’t have the fridge, blood bank fridge. If we don’t have the fridge, we will not be given a certification from the Food and Drug Board before the HEFRA. So that one is what we are waiting for,” she said.

She appealed to the parish to help mobilise resources to acquire the equipment.

“If we should get the fridge today, tomorrow we invite them to come because we know there are many. So please, we pray that God will help you put the resources together and help us to even the smallest blood bank fridge we will appreciate. Thank you very much for the items,” Mrs Akuamoah said.

She also prayed for God’s continued blessing on the parish and those who contributed to the donation.

“Wherever the items came from, the coffers, whatever you do as individuals and as a church, may God continue to help you. So that when you go to various workplaces, doors should be open. Even those trying to go to work,” she said.

For his part, the Parish Pastoral Council Chairperson, Mr Ferdinand D. Adadzi, said the parish had received a list of needs from the polyclinic and was working on it.

“We are glad to be here to assist you. As you also said, we have received a list from you. We are working on that,” he said.

He explained that the items presented during the exercise were intended to support the facility’s cleaning efforts.

“But that’s not what we are presenting today. We are presenting some coding materials to assist you to continue to keep the premises clean. At the appropriate time, we will work on the list you’ve given to us. And then come back to do a formal presentation on the items that we’ve given you. Amen!” Mr Adadzi said.

The cleanup and donation form part of the activities being organised by St Dominic Catholic Church as it marks 40 years of its establishment.

The anniversary celebrations will continue through the year and are expected to climax in November 2026.
