CREC International has elected a new president, with Comboni missionary Fabrizio Colombo set to lead the organisation for the next three years.
The decision was taken during the General Assembly held in Rome from May 15 to 17, 2026, where a new Board of Directors was also constituted.
According to a press release issued on May 20, Fr. Colombo, who has long been involved in the development of Catholic media, will serve a three year term from 2026 to 2029.
CREC International, a French non profit organisation with an international mission, focuses on practical training and consultancy in communication and media. The association supports priests, bishops, seminarians and media professionals in responding to the demands of contemporary communication, especially in the context of digital transformation and the rise of artificial intelligence.
Fr. Colombo brings extensive missionary and media experience to the role, particularly from his work across Africa. He has contributed to major Catholic media initiatives, including UCTV in Uganda, Catholic radio networks in Burkina Faso, and the development of radio, television and film production facilities at the Université Catholique de l’Afrique de l’Ouest in Abidjan.
He also spent nine years in Chad, supporting audiovisual communication through the Service Audiovisuel de Communication in Sarh and helping to establish Radio Lotiko, which marks its twenty fifth anniversary this year.
Looking ahead, the new leadership has identified Africa as a key priority, with plans to strengthen the organisation’s presence on the continent through the structuring of CREC Africa and the appointment of coordinators for both French speaking and English speaking regions.
The initiative is expected to deepen the Church’s capacity in media and digital communication across Africa, responding more closely to local realities and pastoral needs.
