St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo receives over GHS 1m in medical equipment from Italian NGO

St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo has received a second major consignment of medical equipment valued at over GHS 500,000, strengthening its capacity to deliver quality healthcare. This latest batch, handed over on May 16, 2025, comes from the Circle Association for International Development, a non-governmental organization based in Bolzano, Northern Italy.

The first donation was made on March 12, 2025, when the hospital received equipment worth approximately €30,000 (about GHS 500,000) aimed at upgrading its laboratory and theatre facilities. Items included a hot air oven, incubator, electrophoresis machine, anaesthetic machine, theatre bed, and standing lamp, significantly improving diagnostic and surgical services.

Dr. Nelson Agboadoh, Medical Director of St. Anne’s, expressed deep gratitude for the continued support from the NGO and the collaborative efforts of the Diocesan Health Directorate and Development Office. He noted that the new equipment has transformed hospital operations and welcomed the second donation as a vital reinforcement of their capacity to serve the community.

Representing the Bishop of Damongo, Very Rev. Fr. Sylvester Kuubetersuur, Development Coordinator of the Diocese, explained that the entire project proposal submitted to the Italian donor amounts to over GHS 1 million, with funds disbursed in phases. He encouraged hospital staff to utilize the equipment responsibly, ensuring that it benefits especially the vulnerable populations served by the hospital.

Fr. Kuubetersuur also highlighted the Diocese’s broader support for Catholic health facilities across the region, including in remote areas such as Kalba, Kusawgu, and Kulmasa, where the Church complements government efforts to reach underserved communities.
