The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has called on the Clergy, Consecrated Persons, and Lay Faithful of the Catholic Church in Ghana to embrace the Advent season with hope, peace, and preparation for the upcoming general elections and the Jubilee Year.
The communique signed by Bishop of Sunyani and President of Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Gyamfi emphasized that the Advent season is a time for spiritual renewal and joyful anticipation, as well as a period to reflect on Christ’s hope, peace, and the promise of reconciliation.
The Bishop reminded the faithful that Christ is the ultimate source of peace and hope, encouraging them to be agents of peace and to prioritize the common good over political divisions.
The Advent season invites us to open our hearts to the peace that Christ offers, a peace that surpasses all understanding.
“In the midst of political campaigns, tensions, and divisions, we must remember that Christ came into the world to bring peace, reconciliation, and unity.”
The Bishops called for responsible participation in the electoral process, urging Catholics to vote not just as citizens but as individuals committed to the Gospel values of justice, love, and mercy.
They stressed on the importance of free, fair, and peaceful elections, and urged the faithful to place the well-being of the nation above political interests.
The Bishop Conference also highlighted the significance of the Jubilee Year, a time of grace, restoration, and spiritual renewal.
They urged Catholics to reflect on God’s mercy, seek reconciliation, and engage in acts of charity during this period and calls for intensified prayer during Advent, asking the faithful to pray for peace, justice, and reconciliation in the country and for wisdom and integrity for Ghana’s leaders.
They further encouraged acts of service, particularly toward the poor, the sick, and marginalized members in society.
