The National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) in Ghana has announced the appointment of Mr. Gerald Ekow Woode as the new General Secretary of the Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC). In addition to this new role, Mr. Woode will also serve as the National Coordinator for IMCS Pax Romana.

Mr. Woode’s appointment took effect on Monday, 9th June 2025, and marks a significant development in the leadership structure of the Catholic youth movement in Ghana. With a strong background in youth ministry and Catholic student leadership, Mr. Woode is expected to bring renewed energy, strategic direction, and a deep sense of commitment to the growth of GHANCYC and IMCS Pax Romana in Ghana.

The National Catholic Secretariat has called on all stakeholders, youth leaders, and partner organizations to offer Mr. Woode the full cooperation and support required to succeed in his dual role.

His leadership comes at a pivotal time as GHANCYC continues to strengthen its impact on youth formation, civic engagement, and faith-based development.

GHANCYC is the umbrella body for Catholic youth organizations in Ghana, working to promote spiritual development, leadership training, and social engagement among young Catholics

The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Pax Romana is a global movement that engages students in intellectual, spiritual, and social action based on Catholic values.

Gerald Ekow Woode, a respected and visionary figure in the Catholic Church in Ghana, continues to make a significant impact on youth development and church service through his dedicated leadership. His journey began in 2018 as Chairman of the Our Lady of Mercy Parish Youth Council, where he led for five years, fostering spiritual growth and unity among young parishioners.

Woode’s influence expanded quickly, serving as Vice Chairman (2018–2020) and later Chairman (2021–2022) of the Tema-Bator Deanery Catholic Youth Council.

In 2021, he was elected Chairman of the Accra Archdiocese Catholic Youth Council, leading initiatives to strengthen youth structures and participation across the archdiocese until 2023.
Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Accra Ecclesiastical Provincial Catholic Youth Council, a role he has held since 2021.

2nd book of Kings 24,8-17.

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he... began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Nehushta, daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.
He did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his forebears had done.
At that time the officials of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, attacked Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.
Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, himself arrived at the city while his servants were besieging it.
Then Jehoiachin, king of Judah, together with his mother, his ministers, officers, and functionaries, surrendered to the king of Babylon, who, in the eighth year of his reign, took him captive.
He carried off all the treasures of the temple of the LORD and those of the palace, and broke up all the gold utensils that Solomon, king of Israel, had provided in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had foretold.
He deported all Jerusalem: all the officers and men of the army, ten thousand in number, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None were left among the people of the land except the poor.
He deported Jehoiachin to Babylon, and also led captive from Jerusalem to Babylon the king's mother and wives, his functionaries, and the chief men of the land.
The king of Babylon also led captive to Babylon all seven thousand men of the army, and a thousand craftsmen and smiths, all of them trained soldiers.
In place of Jehoiachin, the king of Babylon appointed his uncle Mattaniah king, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,
for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
