The Vatican has officially released Pope Leo XIV’s liturgical schedule for the months of August and September 2025, with a major highlight being the long-anticipated canonisation of Blesseds Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis.
According to the Office for Liturgical Celebrations, the Holy Father will return from his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo on July 20, and resume public Masses soon after.
On Sunday, 7 September 2025, which marks the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Pope Leo XIV will preside over a canonisation Mass at St. Peter’s Square, where the beloved young witnesses to faith—Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati—will officially be declared saints of the Church. The Eucharistic celebration is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. local time and is expected to draw thousands of pilgrims, especially young people.
Earlier in the month, on Sunday, 3 August, Pope Leo will celebrate Mass at Tor Vergata University in Rome as part of the Jubilee of Youth, reinforcing his deep commitment to walking with young people on their faith journey.
The following week, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (15 August), the Pope will return briefly to Castel Gandolfo, where he is expected to celebrate Mass at the pontifical parish and lead the Angelus prayer in Liberty Square.
The Pope’s September schedule also includes a special ecumenical event. On Sunday, 14 September, he will participate in a commemoration of modern-day Christian martyrs—referred to as “witnesses to the faith”—at St. Paul Outside the Walls Basilica, beginning at 5:00 p.m..
Then on Sunday, 28 September, Pope Leo XIV will return to St. Peter’s Square for the Mass of the Jubilee of Catechists, also scheduled for 10:00 a.m. This celebration honours those dedicated to handing on the faith through teaching and personal witness.
