The Fr. Campbell SVD Foundation at the Weija Leprosarium welcomed the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Friday, 18th July 2025.
The visit formed part of the Ministry’s engagement with learners enrolled in the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP LOT 7B), a World Bank-supported initiative implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
GEOP is a results-based educational programme that seeks to bring foundational learning, life skills, and vocational pathways to Ghana’s most vulnerable young people—particularly out-of-school youth and those who have endured life on the streets.
In line with the Church’s preferential option for the poor, the Fr. Campbell Foundation stands as one of the key implementing centres of this national effort, providing a safe, structured, and compassionate environment for learners aged 15 to 18.
During the visit, the Minister interacted with learners and staff, observing firsthand the impact of faith-inspired service. Many of the young beneficiaries shared deeply moving accounts of life before joining the programme—narratives of extreme deprivation, homelessness, lack of basic hygiene, and hopelessness. These testimonies served as powerful reminders of the urgent need for inclusive educational interventions rooted in human dignity and solidarity.
The visit also highlighted the Foundation’s holistic model of formation, which goes beyond classroom instruction to offer healing, stability, and the tools for reintegration into society. Through its collaboration with GEOP, the Foundation is helping transform lives by ensuring that no child is left behind—spiritually, socially, or educationally.
The Minister reiterated his ministry’s commitment to supporting the transition of these learners into apprenticeships and vocational training programmes, recognising that true education must lead to empowerment and long-term self-sufficiency.
