The Catholic Bishop of Ho, Most Rev Emmanuel Kofi Fianu SVD, has commissioned 76 newly trained catechists into active ministry to strengthen faith formation and evangelization in the Hohoe Deanery.
The commissioning followed a three years spiritual and intellectual formation which equipped the Catechists with theological knowledge, pastoral skills, and spiritual guidance.
The solemn Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Ho, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, at the Holy Rosary Parish, Hohoe-Ahado, who blessed, vested, and formally commissioned the catechists into service.
In his homily, Bishop Fianu urged them to lead exemplary Christian lives and nurture the faith of the people they serve.
He emphasized that catechists remain indispensable collaborators in advancing the mission of the Church, particularly at the grassroots level where they help families and communities live out the Gospel.
Very Rev. Fr. Walter Agbetoh, Vicar General of the Diocese, also reminded the newly commissioned catechists of their central role in evangelization and faith formation, stressing the need for dedication, humility, and commitment to service.
Catechists in the Catholic Church are lay men and women entrusted with assisting in faith formation, preparing children, youth, and adults for the sacraments, and supporting priests in pastoral work.
Their commissioning marks a renewed effort to deepen the understanding of the Catholic faith and build vibrant Christian communities across the Deanery.
