The Wiawso Diocesan Youth Council (WIADYC) has successfully concluded its 2026 Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM), held at St. Paul Catholic Church, Adjoafua, with a renewed call for active youth participation in the Church’s mission and the election of new diocesan executives.

The three-day gathering brought together youth leaders, chaplains and delegates from across the diocese under the theme: “Youth Participation in a Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana.”

Addressing participants on the theme, Rev. Fr. Bernard Enock Fuachie, Parish Priest of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Mafia underscores the importance of accommodation, acceptance and tolerance among young people within the Church and society. He explained that the synodal journey challenges young Catholics to walk together in faith, learn from one another, collaborate effectively, support each other’s growth and strive for collective success.

According to Rev. Fr. Fuachie, a synodal youth is one who embraces dialogue, unity and participation, contributing meaningfully to the mission of the Church while promoting justice and peace within communities.

Speaking on youth leadership, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. George Aggrey, underscored the virtues of commitment, sacrifice and service. He noted that effective leadership is built on what he described as the “Three Ts” — Time, Talent and Treasure.

He stated that leaders must dedicate adequate time to their responsibilities, utilize their God-given talents for the benefit of others and willingly invest their material and financial resources in service to the Church and society.

Rev. Fr. Aggrey further emphasized that true leadership is not determined by how much a person speaks but by the ability to listen attentively, consult widely, make informed decisions and serve faithfully. He therefore urged the councillors to embrace servant leadership and work selflessly for the advancement of the youth ministry and the growth of the Church.

The meeting also provided a platform for delegates to deliberate on issues affecting youth development within the diocese, review the council’s activities, strengthen collaboration among member groups and formulate strategies to enhance youth participation in the life and mission of the Church.

A major highlight of the council meeting was the election of new executives who will lead the affairs of the Wiawso Diocesan Youth Council for the next two years.

The newly elected officers are Michael Pramah, Chairman, Confidence Kwarteng, Vice Chairman, Michael Owusu Secretary and Asamoah Priscilla, Assistant General Secretary.

The rest are Mornack Owusu Nkuah, Financial Secretary, Mensah Francis Organiser, Enoch Amoah Mintah – Public and Media Communications Officer, Stephen Bosque Hamilton Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ruth Boateng, Women’s Commissioner (WOCOM), Seth Gyamfi Trustee , Gifty Asiedu who will serve as Coordinator with the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. George Aggrey.

The newly elected executives were charged to build upon the achievements of previous administrations and provide visionary leadership that will deepen youth formation, strengthen unity among young Catholics and promote active participation in the Church’s evangelization mission.

The 2026 Annual General Council Meeting reaffirmed the vital role of young people as active partners in the life and mission of the Church. Participants emphasized the importance of sustained investment in youth formation, leadership development and faith-based community engagement, describing these as essential pillars for nurturing a vibrant and mission-oriented Church across the Diocese.

2nd book of Kings 2,1.6-14.

When the LORD was about to take Elijah up... to heaven in a whirlwind, he and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.
Elijah said to Elisha, "Please stay here; the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan." "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live," Elisha replied, "I will not leave you." And so the two went on together.
Fifty of the guild prophets followed, and when the two stopped at the Jordan, stood facing them at a distance.
Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up and struck the water, which divided, and both crossed over on dry ground.
When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask for whatever I may do for you, before I am taken from you." Elisha answered, "May I receive a double portion of your spirit."
"You have asked something that is not easy," he replied. "Still, if you see me taken up from you, your wish will be granted; otherwise not."
As they walked on conversing, a flaming chariot and flaming horses came between them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.
When Elisha saw it happen he cried out, "My father! my father! Israel's chariots and drivers!" But when he could no longer see him, Elisha gripped his own garment and tore it in two.
Then he picked up Elijah's mantle which had fallen from him, and went back and stood at the bank of the Jordan.
Wielding the mantle which had fallen from Elijah, he struck the water in his turn and said, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" When Elisha struck the water it divided and he crossed over.

Psalms 31(30),20.21.24.

How great is the goodness, O LORD,
which... you have in store for those who fear you,
And which, toward those who take refuge in you,
you show in the sight of the children of men.

You hide them in the shelter of your presence
from the plottings of men;
You screen them within your abode
from the strife of tongues.

Love the LORD, all you his faithful ones!
The LORD keeps those who are constant,
but more than requites those who act proudly.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6,1-6.16-18.

Jesus said to his disciples: "Take care... not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you."
