Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Most Rev. John Kwamevi Cudjoe, SVD, has expressed concern that too many priests are neglecting prayer, noting that this weakens both their vocation and the Church.
Preaching at the 2026 SVD Ghana Province ordination in Asutsuare on Saturday, where he ordained four deacons to the priesthood and a seminarian to the diaconate, Auxiliary Bishop of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Most Rev. John Kwamevi Cudjoe said the greatest danger facing priests today is becoming busy with ministry while neglecting their relationship with God.
“You have time for the things of God but you don’t have time for the God of the things,” he said.
Bishop Cudjoe added, “We are few who pray,” stressing that priests who abandon prayer become spiritually weak and vulnerable to temptation.
He also criticised excessive use of mobile phones, describing spending long hours on them while neglecting time before the Blessed Sacrament as “sin” and “corruption”.
The bishop urged the newly ordained to spend at least one hour each day in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, insisting that “the success of your mission is decided on your knees.”
