The Taifa Branch of the St Theresa of the Child Jesus Society has launched its 25th anniversary celebrations with a charitable project to provide school uniforms and sandals to underprivileged children in a rural community in Ghana.
The Little Way Care Charity Project, unveiled by the branch President, Opanin Theresa Bebaaku Dery, at the launch held at St Dominic Catholic Church, forms part of the Society’s commitment to serving God and the wider community.
Under the project, the Society is seeking support to provide school uniforms and sandals to children struggling to afford basic items needed for school.
A complete set of a school uniform and sandals costs GH¢210, with the uniform costing GH¢150 and the sandals GH¢60.
The Society is also appealing for donations of storybooks, fairly used clothing and provisions to support the initiative.
Launching the anniversary, Opanin Dery said the charity project was inspired by the example of St Theresa of the Child Jesus and her “Little Way” of doing small things with great love.
“We firmly believe that in clothing them, we are clothing Christ himself,” she said, encouraging individuals and organisations to sponsor a child or contribute towards the project.
The charitable initiative is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, as part of activities marking the branch’s 25th anniversary.
The anniversary is being celebrated under the theme, “25 years of grace and roses, walking the Theresian way of service.”
Opanin Dery described the anniversary as a celebration of a journey that began 25 years ago when pioneers of the Society planted what she described as a “small seed of devotion”.
She said that seed had grown into a vibrant community of members committed to prayer, service to God and support for the parish.
The branch also used the occasion to honour its pioneers, deceased members and patrons who contributed to building the Society over the past 25 years.
Opanin Dery expressed gratitude to the Society’s chaplains, patrons, priests, parishioners, benefactors and families for their support over the years.
The anniversary programme will include a nine day novena and retreat, a debate, fraternal parish visitation, a feast day celebration and a candlelight procession in memory of deceased members and patrons.
The celebrations will climax with a Thanksgiving Mass on October 25, 2026, during the second Mass at St Dominic Catholic Church.
