The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan, Most Rev. Simon Kofi Appiah, has identified the promotion of human dignity, especially among rural communities, as the most urgent spiritual and pastoral need in his diocese.
In an interview with Catholic Trends, the Bishop said the realities facing the faithful in the Diocese require a strong pastoral focus on human care and dignity in everyday life.
“There are many, many spiritual and, if you like, material needs in the Diocese of Jasikan. But what informed my choice of a motto, Deus caritas est, is precisely the need for human care, the need for promoting the dignity of people who live in rural settings and who must struggle every day for their survival and for the promotion of a life endowed with a little bit of dignity,” Bishop Appiah said.
He is of the view that pastoral ministry must be closely tied to concrete expressions of care for people living in difficult socio economic conditions.
