Fr. Abbey, reflecting on his own experience at last year’s ordination ceremony in a Facebook post said, “I am always fascinated by ordinations… Msgr. Peter Agbenu wore his ‘Monsignor cassock’ which he hardly does.” He underscored that while material aspects of life have their place, true fulfillment comes from serving Christ and His people.
He urged the newly ordained priests to be a bridge for others to experience God’s love, stating, “Today, like Jesus who is the bridge from God to man and man to God, we too are called to be the bridge for others to come to know and experience His love.” Fr. Abbey opined that true happiness is not found in material possessions or the specific parish assignment but in dedicating oneself to the service of Christ and the community.
Addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of the faithful, Fr. Abbey said, “Many people are in the valley of dry bones and tears… be that preacher to help people see life in a new perspective.” He stressed the importance of both preaching and praying, noting, “It is not sufficient for you to preach. You must pray as much as you teach.”
He further urged the priests to live out their calling with integrity and dedication, so as to bring honor to God and the Church. “We are called to radiate the glory of God in our lives,” he said. “The holiness of God is not just displayed in His works; it is also displayed through us,” he added.
