The Catholic Bishop of Wa, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., has travelled to the Republic of Niger to participate in the Episcopal Ordination of Very Rev. Msgr. Ignatius Anipu, M.Afr., as the newly appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Maradi.
The ordination ceremony, scheduled to take place this week, marks a significant milestone in the Church’s missionary efforts in the Sahel region. Bishop Bomansaan, who departed Ghana on May 28, is expected to return on June 4, 2025.
In a formal communication to the Apostolic Nuncio, Ghanaian Archbishops, and Bishops, Bishop Bomansaan expressed gratitude for their continued prayers and support, highlighting the importance of the occasion for the universal Church.
During his absence, Very Rev. Fr. John Kuupiel, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Wa, has been appointed to oversee diocesan affairs in an interim capacity. The Diocese assured the faithful of continuity in pastoral and administrative responsibilities throughout the Bishop’s short absence.
The Diocese of Wa continues to play a vital role in advancing the Church’s mission in Ghana and beyond, with Bishop Bomansaan’s presence in Maradi underscoring the spirit of solidarity within the African Church.
