The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) has elected new national executives to steer the affairs of the Council during its 49th Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM) held at the Tamale Archdiocesan Pastoral Formation Centre.
The newly elected leaders are Mr. Matthew Adda from the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese of the Tamale Province as Chairperson, Mr. Asamoah Twumasi Vondee from the Goaso Diocese of the Kumasi Province as Vice Chairman, and Ms. Rhodaline To-Egame Anaba from the Accra Archdiocese of the Accra Province as Treasurer.
They will be supported by the National Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. James Bour-Mensah, and the General Secretary, Mr. Gerald Ekow Woode, both of whom are appointed by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The newly elected Chairperson, Matthew Adda assured Catholic youth across the country of unity and collaboration in advancing the mission of the Council. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, pledging to harness the gifts, knowledge, and ideas of members, chaplains, and stakeholders.
He also appealed to the outgoing executives to continue offering guidance and support.
“We are one family in Christ, and together as youth leaders, we shall work hand in hand for the growth of GHANCYC and the mission of the Church. We humbly ask our predecessors to always open their doors to us,” he said.
He called on Catholic youth, chaplains, and partners to sustain their prayers, encouragement, and active participation in the activities of the Council, noting that such collective effort will ensure the holistic formation of faith-filled, responsible, and transformative young Catholics who can contribute positively to both the Church and society.
This year’s AGCM, which brought together delegates from various dioceses and vicariates across the country, was held under the theme “Jubilee Year: A Time to Proclaim Christ, Hope for the Church and Ghana.”
GHANCYC, established in 1974 by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, operates under the Department of Pastoral Ministry and Evangelisation of the National Catholic Secretariat. It serves as the official mouthpiece of Catholic youth in Ghana, with the mandate to coordinate, train, evaluate, and promote their growth and development in faith and service.
Very Rev Fr James Bour-Mensah, National Youth Chaplain urged the new leadership to allow themselves to be used by God for the greater growth of the Council.
