The Bishop of Obuasi, Most Rev. John Yaw Afoakwah, has confirmed the election of Very Rev. Fr Isaac Kyei as the new Dean of the Agroyesum Deanery.
The appointment, contained in an ecclesiastical decree issued by Bishop Afoakwah, takes effect from September 1, 2026, and will run for five years unless otherwise determined by the Bishop.
Fr Kyei’s election was communicated to the Bishop through a letter received by his office, following which Bishop Afoakwah formally confirmed the election and appointed him as the “proper dean” of the Agroyesum Deanery.
In the decree dated July 23, 2026, Bishop Afoakwah urged Fr Kyei to familiarise himself with the canonical responsibilities attached to the office by studying Canons 553 to 555 of the Code of Canon Law, as well as Article 28 of the Statutes of the Obuasi Diocese.
The relevant canons outline the role of a dean, including responsibilities concerning pastoral coordination and support for the priests and communities within the deanery.
Bishop Afoakwah expressed confidence in Fr Kyei’s ability to serve in the new role, assuring him of his cooperation and availability.
“I have trust in your competence and cooperation and so my uncompromised availability and cooperation are also assured,” the Bishop said in the decree.
He also congratulated Fr Kyei on his appointment and invoked God’s grace upon his new ministry.
Under the decree, Fr Kyei is required to formally respond to the appointment within 14 canonical days after receiving the official notification.
The appointment places Fr Kyei in a key pastoral coordination role within the Agroyesum Deanery, as he assumes responsibility for the duties and obligations attached to the office of dean under both canon law and the particular statutes of the Obuasi Diocese.
The Agroyesum Deanery forms part of the pastoral structure of the Diocese of Obuasi, with the dean serving as a point of coordination among the parishes and priests entrusted to the deanery.
Bishop Afoakwah’s decree was issued from the Catholic Secretariat of the Obuasi Diocese on July 23, 2026.
