The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Reverend Charles G. Palmer-Buckle, has advised pilgrims and visitors travelling to Cape Coast for the Double Jubilee celebration to avoid the heavy traffic congestion caused by ongoing road construction on the Kasoa–Winneba stretch.
In a notice issued on Thursday, October 23, the Archbishop encouraged travellers coming from the eastern corridor, including Accra, to use an alternative route through Awutu Bawjiase, Agona Swedru and the Winneba Roundabout to Cape Coast.
He explained that while the route is “some kilometres longer,” it is “less traffic chaos.” According to him, “the only construction stretch is 17 kms from Agona Swedru to Winneba Roundabout.”
Archbishop Palmer-Buckle assured that the detour would take about four hours “without chaotic delays,” urging all the faithful to plan their travel accordingly.
The Archdiocese of Cape Coast will host the climax of its Double Jubilee celebration marking 75 years since its creation alongside the dioceses of Accra, Keta, Kumasi and Tamale on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St Augustine’s College Park, Cape Coast, with Holy Mass starting at 9 a.m. GMT.
Thousands of pilgrims, clergy, religious, and lay faithful are expected to attend the celebration, which will be graced by the Papal Envoy, His Eminence Wilfrid Fox Cardinal Napier, O.F.M., representing Pope Leo XIV.
