The mortal remains of Rev. Fr. Isaac Amos-Abanyie have been repatriated from South Africa to Ghana, following a solemn and emotional reception at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, April 2, 2026.
The repatriation was facilitated through a coordinated effort involving the Ministry of Interior, the Ghana Health Service, and Ghana’s diplomatic mission in South Africa, working closely with South African authorities to ensure a dignified return.
On arrival, the casket was received by a delegation from the National Catholic Secretariat, alongside priests from the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast and members of the bereaved family.

In a brief but moving ceremony on the tarmac, the Secretary-General of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Kwasi Adjei, led prayers with support from other clergy, as final respects were paid before the remains were conveyed for funeral preparations.
Family members, visibly grief-stricken, were present to receive the body of their beloved son and priest.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Very Rev. Fr. Michael K.A. Quaicoe, Director for Governance, Justice and Peace at the Bishops’ Conference, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, particularly the embassy in South Africa, for the swift consular support that made the repatriation possible.
The late Rev. Fr. Amos-Abanyie is expected to be laid to rest in the coming days, with funeral arrangements to be announced by Church authorities and the family.

In a related development, the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast has confirmed Friday, April 17, 2026, as the date for the burial and final funeral rites of the late priest.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi and signed by the Vicar-General of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Annan.
The statement called on the faithful to remember the late Rev. Fr. Amos-Abanyie in prayer, asking for the repose of his soul as preparations continue toward his final burial.
