Synodality is reawakening the spirit of togetherness – Kenyan Synobs member

A Kenyan Synod Observer has said the Synod on Synodality is helping the Catholic Church renew its mission by promoting greater togetherness, inclusion and participation among the faithful.

Sister Celestine Nasiali of the Oblate Sisters of Assumption said her participation in a Synodality Observatory (SynObs) workshop transformed her understanding of her role and challenged her to become an ambassador of the Synodal journey.

“When I got my appointment letter, I did not really understand my role, but through this workshop I have understood that we need to help the people of God to understand the Synod and to renew,” she said.

Sr. Celestine said synodality is calling the Church to journey together and involve everyone in its mission.

“Synod is the way to go. Synod is the way for us to think about the Catholic Church because we are just renewing all that has been there,” she said.

She added that the workshop gave her an opportunity to learn from other African observers and understand how synodality is being lived across different countries.

“Coming to this workshop has really given me an eye-opener. It has really helped me to interact with my fellow Africans who are also observers,” she said.

Representing ACWECA and women religious in Kenya, Sr. Celestine said she hopes to share the lessons from the Synodality Observatory with communities back home.

“Synodality is reawakening the spirit of togetherness, the spirit of inclusion, the spirit of participation,” she said.

“We need to participate. If you want to follow the mission of Christ, we need to bring everybody on board.”
