The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians at Asikaman near Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a condolence statement dated August 6, the Council, on behalf of Catholic youth across all Archdioceses and Dioceses in Ghana, extended heartfelt sympathy to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, affected institutions, and the entire nation.

The victims of the crash have been identified as:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

  • Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation

  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress

  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Twum Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo

The GHANCYC described the deceased as “distinguished and patriotic sons of our beloved nation,” noting their exemplary service, integrity, and dedication to national peace and development. “Their passing is not only a loss to their families and communities but also a profound national bereavement that has left a deep void in our shared spirit as a people,” the statement read.

The Council encouraged Ghanaians to stand in solidarity and compassion during this period of grief, urging the nation to draw strength from shared faith and the values the deceased embodied. “May their legacy inspire us to greater service, deeper solidarity, and renewed dedication to building a just, peaceful, and resilient Ghana,” it added.

The GHANCYC also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and asked for divine comfort for the bereaved families.
