Seven men have been ordained deacons in the Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Accra.
The ordination took place earlier today at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Atomic-Accra, with Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare presiding over the rites. Also in attendance were Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie and Auxiliary Bishop John Kobina Loius.
The candidates, from various parishes across the Archdiocese, were welcomed into the clergy with blessings and prayers as they took up the mantle to serve God and His Church.
Among those ordained are Fredrick Asante Owusu from St. John the Baptist, Odorkor; Isaac Kofi Dunyoh from St. Patrick, Atomic; Toussaint Wadia Nianza from Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka; Victor Yaw Ampim from St. Joseph the Worker, Nii Boiman; Roland R. K. Kajelo from St. Benedict, Ofankor; Peter Oppong-Ampofo from Ss. Anne & Joachim, Teshie; and Michael Owusu-Amponsah from Christ the King, Cantonments.
Delivering a homily, Very Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Akesseh encouraged the new deacons to remain humble in their mission, warning them not to let personal ambitions hinder the greater vision of the Archdiocese.
He called on them to be effective collaborators in fulfilling the Archbishop’s goals and to always place service above self.
In the Catholic Church, a deacon is an ordained minister who serves as a helper to bishops and priests in various liturgical and pastoral functions. The diaconate is the first of three degrees in the sacrament of Holy Orders, followed by the priesthood and episcopacy.
