The National Catholic Secretariat has officially announced the installation of the first Bishop of the newly established Diocese of Donkorkrom- Ghana, Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Secretariat, the historic ceremony will take place at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Donkorkrom. The installation marks a significant milestone in the growth and administrative development of the Catholic Church in Ghana.
The announcement, dated June 3, 2026, was addressed to all ecclesiastical authorities and stakeholders within the Catholic Church. It forms part of preparations toward the formal establishment and leadership transition of the new diocese.
Further details regarding the liturgical celebration and related arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course by the Secretariat.
The statement urged the faithful, clergy, and consecrated persons of the Diocese of Donkorkrom to keep the newly created diocese and its first bishop in their prayers as they prepare for the historic occasion.
The communication was signed by the Secretary General of the National Catholic Secretariat, Very Rev. Fr. Clement K. Adjei.
The installation of Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD is expected to strengthen pastoral care and deepen evangelization efforts within the new diocese, which becomes one of the latest additions to the Catholic Church’s ecclesiastical structure in Ghana.
