Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, has issued a stirring call to the Catholic Organisation for Social and Religious Advancement (COSRA) to stay rooted in its founding principles while actively engaging the complex realities facing young people in Ghana.
Addressing the delegates at the COSRA Biannual Mini Congress held on 28th June 2025 at the Archbishop Andoh Catechetical Centre, Kordiabe, Bishop Louis declared:
“Our motto, ‘Service to God and Man,’ and slogan, ‘Revolution! Action in Christ!’ call us to active engagement in the religious, social, economic and political needs of young people in Ghana without compromising our Catholic identity.”
He emphasised that ensuring COSRA’s relevance in today’s ever-changing world demands intentional renewal and responsiveness to modern challenges without losing its spiritual foundation. He encouraged leaders to take a bold and compassionate approach to tackling issues such as spiritual apathy, unemployment, social injustice, economic hardship, and moral dilemmas that confront Ghanaian youth.
“COSRA must remain attentive to the lived experiences of its members, especially in the ever-changing socio-cultural landscape,” he said.
Bishop Louis called on COSRA to harness the energy and creativity of the youth, stressing the need for platforms that foster leadership, innovation, and inclusion. He urged greater use of digital tools like social media, podcasts, and webinars to engage the younger generation and address faith, social issues, and personal growth in relatable ways.
Moreover, he encouraged deeper formation through education that integrates Catholic social teaching, scriptural reflection, and pastoral care. These efforts, he said, will allow COSRA to build a generation of faithful and socially responsive Catholics.
“Organising youth retreats and conferences that combine spiritual formation with practical workshops allows young people to reflect on their purpose, deepen their faith, and gain the tools to serve the Church and society,” he added.
Bishop Louis concluded by urging COSRA members to renew their commitment to the vision of the founder, Msgr. Jonathan Ayikai Ankrah, and to continue being a transformative force in the Church and Ghanaian society.
